Did you know? That there's a neurobiological basis for repressed memories? Scientists at the University of Oregon and Stanford University recently reported that they have discovered areas of the brain responsible for memory suppression. This is important news since we finally have evidence of a neurobiological basis for a phenomenon we've known about for decades and yet which has been shrouded in controversy. The part of the brain involved appears to be similar to that we use to suppress physical activity. For example, if you want to stop your arm from waving, you will engage a part of the brain that Dr. Michael Anderson and Dr. John Gabrieli say is the same place that suppresses "unwanted" memories. "The suppression of thinking about something ultimately makes it unavailable to you on any basis," says Dr. Gabrieli. What I find particularly interesting about these findings is that they add confirmation to the fact that each and every thing we experience is stored somewhere in our body. Whether we choose to access those memories is another matter. But if thought is energy, and memories are 'stored thoughts' and those memories are still there, loaded with the energetic charges that made them too repugnant for us to want to recall, are they not somehow still acting upon us, out of our awareness? And if we could release them so that the energy they contain is metabolized or neutralized in some way, what energy stores could become available to us. What different directions could our lives then take? What I find particularly comforting is that science is, yet again, finally catching up and providing an explanation many of our clients are seeking for the amazing experiences they have. Perhaps one day soon science will also confirm for us another thing that we already know: that there is a way for the body to engage and process "suppressed memories" without having to re-live the soul destroying "trauma" of the story involved. In the meantime, we'll just have to keep on achieving the results we're achieving without science having conferred its blessing upon the process! Thought WavesThe following article was sent to us by Raymond M. Landry - a Certified WEL-Systems® Master Facilitator and Quantum TLC Facilitator. He is the Owner Operator of "Self Power Finding Your Way to Excellence" What Else, If Not Addictions?Recently, I have created opportunities for myself to share this "Autopoietic" (Self Creation) perspective by organizing public forums and two-day intensives where people attending are invited to consider all their behaviours in the larger context of what else those behaviours could mean in their lives, instead of blindly accepting others' opinions of who they are and what they are doing. What else, if not addictions? Well, just consider for a second that maybe, just maybe, we human beings are doing the best we know how to do with what we know and with what is available to us at the time (including beliefs, values, attitudes). Add to that that many of our behaviours occur out of consciousness, in a habitual process we could call "programming". Programming from the time we are toddlers or younger. What if we suddenly had access to the very "switch" that turned that behaviour on and off? Or that there was no need to turn anything on or off because we had reframed and changed the context, hence, the meaning of that behaviour? My experience with the WEL-Systems perspective (which included NLP and the quantum sciences) has provided me with the joy of knowing my "self" in a way that allows me to create the space I need for my life, all-the-while being an invitation to others to step into their own space, in a way that provides them access to all that is possible for them. I know, for myself, that the weight of the responsibility I used to hold for other peoples' lives (which is often the downfall of younger Addictions workers) is forever gone. I know that there is nothing I can do for others that they cannot do for themselves. In the context of the "helping professions", my effectiveness and skill come from my ability to truly be my self, and not from how I practice a method or use a tool. It is very exciting to talk to people who come in feeling locked into a behaviour and see them light up when they are asked to consider who they believe themselves to be, and find out that they have unlimited choices about how to live their lives. They leave seeing new possibilities for their lives. Create your world? You're already doing it whether you realize it or not! My two pennies about it is that you might as well create the life that makes you happy and gets you what you really want. Take good care of your Self! by: Raymond M. Landry |
